PSG wins UEFA Super Cup for second straight year, beating Aston Villa

Paris Saint-Germain secured the UEFA Super Cup for the second year in a row, triumphing over Aston Villa with a 2-1 victory at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria. The match pitted the Champions League winners against the Europa League champions in a contest that saw both teams score notable goals.

PSG took the lead in the 20th minute when Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner. However, Aston Villa found an equalizer just before halftime. In the 45th minute, 17-year-old forward Bryan Mbeumo scored with a volley following a pass from John McGinn, leveling the score.

The decisive goal came in the 61st minute from PSG's French striker, Desiré Doué. After receiving a pass from Ousmane Dembélé, Doué went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and secured the win. The goal was confirmed after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.

The match was marked by several historical footnotes. Aston Villa's Mbeumo, at 17 years and 212 days old, became the youngest player to score in the UEFA Super Cup, surpassing Patrick Kluivert's record from 1995. PSG's victory also fell on the 56th anniversary of the club's founding on August 12, 1970. This marks the first time since Real Madrid in 2016-2017 that a team has won the Super Cup in consecutive years.
