PT leader says ‘the system has rotted’ and calls for scrutiny of the judiciary

“The system has rotted.” With those words, PT President Edinho Silva joined the political uproar in Brasília over reports involving Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes and banker Daniel Vorcaro.

Silva did not name Moraes directly. But his statement came as the possibility of an investigation into the justice gained attention after reports that Moraes had spoken with Vorcaro and may have discussed investigations affecting the owner of Banco Master.

In a video posted on Instagram, Silva said Lula’s campaign supports urgent changes to Brazil’s political and judicial system. He described the country as facing a deep crisis in which powerful people receive protection, privileges continue and corruption persists.

“It is necessary to end the free-for-all over parliamentary amendments, adopt an ethics code for the entire judiciary and public prosecution service, end excessive salaries and the improper mixing of public and private interests,” Silva said. He also called for full transparency and control over public spending at every level.

Silva was the first senior member of the Workers’ Party campaign leadership to address the issue, even indirectly. Lula attended a ceremony at the Planalto Palace on Wednesday morning but did not mention Moraes or the need to investigate authorities.
