Puerto Rican rapper Kendo Caponi channels personal trauma into new album 'Apocalipto'

Puerto Rican rapper Kendo Caponi has released 'Apocalipto,' his first album in eight years, which he describes as one of the most personal and profound works of his career. The album serves as an outlet for him to process one of the most challenging periods of his life, marked by deep loss, including the death of his son.

Known as 'El Demonio de la Tinta' (The Ink Demon), Kendo Caponi channeled his grief, scars, and moments of rebirth into the 15-track production. The album features collaborations with major figures in urban music, including Yandel, Farruko, Jay Wheeler, Mora, iZaak, Omar Courtz, Luar La L, and Cheniel Capone. This new work, his first since 'El Alfa y El Omega' in 2018, was created to confront a stage defined by profound losses and to transform what could have been an ending into the starting point of a new narrative.

The concept for 'Apocalipto' emerged from one of the most difficult times in the artist's life, a period overshadowed by the death of his son and that of urban artist Pacho, alongside other events that left a deep imprint on his personal history. The album navigates this process from its opening track, 'Intro Apocalipto,' to its closing song, 'Flores De Vida' (Flowers of Life).

The title itself carries a central idea: "after the apocalypse, there can also be a genesis." Thus, 'Apocalipto' stands as a testament to an artist who endured losses, silences, and transformations without abandoning the essence that made him a cult figure in the genre: his lyrical prowess, as highlighted in the press release.
