Rains Leave Roads Damaged in Sinaloa; Brigades Aid Affected Families

Heavy rainfall in Sinaloa, Mexico, has brought mixed blessings, providing much-needed moisture for agriculture and filling reservoirs and rivers, but also causing significant damage to roads and affecting residents. Acting Governor Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde confirmed that aid brigades are actively working to assist affected populations and assess the damage.

Brigades are currently operating in municipalities including Guasave, Salvador Alvarado, Mazatlán, and El Rosario. Their tasks involve helping residents with damaged household items and conducting damage assessments to inform a broader aid program. The State Public Works Secretariat is simultaneously evaluating the impact on road infrastructure, including roads and bridges, to estimate the investment required for repairs.

Initial relief efforts have been underway since last week, with supervisory visits and the distribution of essential supplies such as food packages, cots, blankets, mattresses, cleaning kits, and medical assistance in areas like Angostura, Mocorito, and Salvador Alvarado. Bonilla Valverde also acknowledged the swift work of the Federal Electricity Commission in restoring power to affected rural communities.

Despite the infrastructural challenges, the governor highlighted the substantial benefits the intense rains have brought to the agricultural sector. The increased soil moisture is expected to lead to a productive season for food production, a positive outcome stemming from the otherwise disruptive weather.
