Real Madrid Suffer First Defeat as PSG Stumble Again in France

Two European heavyweights endured a difficult Friday night. Real Madrid suffered their first defeat of the season, while Paris Saint-Germain again failed to find a winning formula in France.

Real Madrid lost 1-0 away to Real Betis. Troy Parrott put the hosts ahead in the 81st minute. Real Betis appeared to score again late on, but Carlos Espí's goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Madrid had a chance to rescue a draw in added time when Vinícius won a penalty. Kylian Mbappé missed from the spot. Officials consulted VAR again but found no reason to retake the kick. Real Madrid and Real Betis both have nine points after four matches.

PSG also suffered at home, losing 2-1 to Monaco. Marquinhos gave the French champions the lead in the 31st minute, but F. Nazinho equalized in the 58th and Stanis Idumbo Muzambo scored Monaco's winner in the 72nd. PSG have only two points after three matches, while Monaco lead the championship with nine after winning all three games.

Liverpool claimed their first Premier League victory by beating Ipswich Town 2-0 away. Alexander Isak scored in the sixth minute and struck again three minutes later. Liverpool now have five points and sit fifth in the table.
