Recreational boat recovered after fatal collision with Norwegian ship

A tragic collision between a recreational boat and a Norwegian cargo ship has resulted in the deaths of a child and a woman. The incident occurred when the recreational boat likely struck the Norwegian cargo ship Misje Verde around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

On board the recreational boat were a couple in their 40s and their two children. While the father and son were found in the water shortly after the collision, the mother and daughter were reported missing and were later found deceased. The father and son also suffered serious injuries but are reported to be in stable condition.

Swedish coast guard authorities have since recovered the recreational boat from a depth of 20 to 30 meters. A spokesperson for the coast guard confirmed their assistance to the police and prosecution in salvaging the boat during the night.

The captain of the Norwegian cargo ship has been arrested in connection with the incident. Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing.
