Residents of Pavlodar region warned of local tornadoes

Residents of Kazakhstan's Pavlodar region face a severe weather threat, with forecasters predicting strong, gusty winds, hail, and thunderstorms. The Pavlodar Region Department of Emergency Situations has issued a stark warning about the possible formation of local tornadoes, urging citizens to take immediate precautions.

Emergency services have provided clear guidance for public safety. Residents are advised to remain at home if possible, ensuring windows, doors, and balconies are securely closed. They are also warned against seeking shelter under trees or standing near power lines, billboards, or other unstable structures. The advice extends to parking vehicles away from potential hazards like trees and power lines.

The warning comes after a powerful vortex, resembling a tornado, caused significant damage in the village of Konyrozek on July 21. The event damaged fences, outbuildings, and roofs of over a dozen homes, as well as a House of Culture. The settlement was left without electricity. While the vortex was not officially recorded due to the distance of the nearest weather station, authorities are assessing the destruction. This follows another severe weather event on July 19, which brought strong winds, heavy rain, and hail to the region, injuring six people, including three teenagers, and causing crop damage and power outages in some areas. A state of emergency was declared in Ekibastuz following that storm.
