‘Return of peace will bring devt in South-East’

The South-East region of Nigeria is experiencing a welcome return to relative peace and civil order, a development that human rights lawyer Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor describes as a triumph reflecting the intrinsic values of the Igbo nation. The current climate of peace, Ejiofor notes, is the result of deliberate and coordinated efforts by critical stakeholders, including security agencies and local communities, who worked to dismantle criminal hideouts and restore order.

This peace, though once disrupted by forces whose calculated objective was to destabilise the region, often, regrettably, aided by misguided elements further emboldened by certain unscrupulous individuals in positions of authority who revel in the spoils of chaos, has now been painstakingly reclaimed through the deliberate, coordinated, and principled efforts of critical stakeholders.

From the perspective of the South-East, this return of peace is crucial for unlocking the region's potential. The years of insecurity had stifled investment, disrupted trade, and led to a significant exodus of people and businesses. The prospect of renewed development and economic revitalization is therefore a cause for significant optimism.
