Riau Province launches Anti-Narcotics Task Force to combat transnational drug trade

In a significant move to curb the escalating drug menace, Riau Province has officially launched its Anti-Narcotics Task Force. This initiative, a collaborative effort between the provincial government, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), signals a heightened level of seriousness in tackling drug trafficking that has increasingly taken on a transnational character.

The readiness parade, attended by a comprehensive array of security and civilian agencies, underscored the integrated strategy being deployed. From the Army, Air Force, and Navy to various police units, customs, and correctional services, the mobilization reflects the multifaceted nature of the drug threat. Crucially, community organizations like the National Movement Against Narcotics (GRANAT) are integrated, emphasizing the vital role of public participation in this war on drugs.

Therefore, concrete and collaborative steps are needed to save the community, especially our young generation from the threat of drugs.

Governor SF Hariyanto's address highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating that drug crimes in Riau are no longer merely local issues but involve organized, cross-border networks. This necessitates an "unusual response" – one that is concrete, collaborative, and comprehensive to protect Riau's citizens, particularly the youth.

Police Chief Herry Heryawan reinforced this message, framing the task force as a strategic response to a complex threat. He pointed to recent events in Panipahan as a stark reminder of how drug issues can destabilize public order and erode trust if not addressed holistically. The Polda Riau's commitment to "zero tolerance" leaves no room for compromise with traffickers and dealers, while simultaneously prioritizing prevention and community empowerment. This dual approach is essential for safeguarding the future of Riau from the pervasive influence of narcotics.
