Ricky Martin returns to cinema with Gael García Bernal's 'Hombre al agua'

Ricky Martin is making a comeback to acting and will also serve as an executive producer for 'Hombre al agua,' the new film directed by and starring Mexican talent Gael García Bernal. Martin expressed his honor in working with Bernal, whom he described as one of the most gifted actors, writers, and directors of his generation. "As an actor and executive producer, having the opportunity to work alongside Gael García Bernal, one of the most talented actors, writers, and directors of his generation, is always an honor," Martin shared via Instagram Stories. He added, "I am here to give my best in a small role, but with Gael everything reaches another level. I am incredibly proud to be part of 'Hombre al agua' and this journey." The film, a surrealist dramedy, is Bernal's third feature as a director. It was co-written and produced by his frequent collaborator Diego Luna. Filmed in Mérida, the capital of Mexico's Yucatán state, the movie delves into themes of fatherhood, masculinity, and migration, drawing from Bernal's personal experiences. Ricky Martin portrays Roby, an actor hired to play Camilo in a biopic, a role driven by the protagonist's wife. Bernal himself plays Camilo, a Cuban lifeguard whose life takes an unexpected turn after he rescues a Mexican businessman with political ambitions from drowning in the Caribbean Sea. The ensemble cast includes Esmeralda Pimentel, Débora Nascimento, Natalia Oreiro, Anna Díaz, Manuel García Rulfo, and Jorge Salinas. 'Hombre al agua,' produced by La Corriente del Golfo, will debut in the Spotlight section at the Venice Film Festival, followed by a special screening at Toronto. Its theatrical release in Mexico is scheduled for September 24. The film promises a unique blend of comedy and drama, exploring complex themes through its narrative.
