“Rituales Vivos de Creación” exhibits co-created works by artisans and designers

The Manzana de la Rivera is set to host "Rituales Vivos de Creación," an exhibition highlighting the outcomes of the fourth "Artesanía + Diseño" (A+D) program. This initiative, spearheaded by the Paraguayan Institute of Crafts (IPA), aims to bridge tradition and innovation by bringing together artisans and designers from across Paraguay.

The exhibition, running from July 21 to 31, marks the culmination of a collaborative process. Over several months, artisans and designers worked together, engaging in a dialogue that blended traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design tools. The goal was to develop new collections that respect and preserve the cultural identity inherent in each craft.

This program is part of a broader public policy effort to bolster innovation, quality, and sustainability within Paraguay's artisan sector. It seeks to create new avenues for growth while safeguarding the valuable knowledge passed down through generations. The displayed works include ceramics, desk objects, and creations utilizing techniques such as filigree, ñandutí, ao po'i, wood carving, basketry, leatherwork, and traditional textiles.

Central to the A+D program was a three-month creative laboratory. This intensive period involved designers acting as mentors, guiding selected artisans and craft businesses from various regions. Through workshops, in-person and virtual meetings, and material experimentation, participants developed prototypes and final products. The methodology emphasized co-creation, ensuring that design enhanced artisans' skills and knowledge while respecting their authorship and the unique characteristics of their techniques.
