Rivers man in police net over defilement of neighbour’s teenage daughter

Operatives from the Special Area Rumudomaya police division have arrested a suspect, identified as Goodnews, in connection with the alleged defilement of his neighbor's 16-year-old daughter. According to Chidi Obulor, a family friend of the victim's parents, the suspect allegedly tricked the teenager into his apartment under the guise of sending her on an errand, subsequently committing the act. The victim was promptly taken to a hospital for medical examination and is receiving treatment. The swift action by the police, following a formal complaint by the girl's parents, has led to the suspect's arrest and the commencement of an investigation.

Blessing Agabe, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the arrest and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway. Prince Wiro, the National Coordinator of the group, has strongly condemned any attempts to resolve the matter through settlement. Wiro emphasized that crimes of this nature are not merely personal offenses but are crimes against the state, and allowing perpetrators to escape justice through settlements only emboldens others. The human rights group is urging the police to ensure a comprehensive investigation and that the suspect faces the full force of the law if found culpable. Efforts are reportedly underway to transfer the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for further detailed investigation.
