Roger Federer dazzles in US Open return alongside McEnroe, Agassi and Roddick

Tennis icon Roger Federer delighted fans with a memorable appearance at the US Open, marking a return to the New York hard courts for a special exhibition match. The 20-time Grand Slam champion, who retired in 2022, received a thunderous standing ovation from a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Federer participated in a one-set singles match against his former rival Andy Roddick, winning 6-3. He then teamed up with John McEnroe to face Andre Agassi and Roddick in a doubles contest, which they won 7-5. The exhibition brought together some of the sport's most legendary figures, creating a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere.

"It's great to be back in New York," Federer expressed, reflecting on his deep connection with the city and the tournament. "I have incredible memories of this court, the fans here, the city. In 2004, 2005 -- that's when it all started here, my love for New York with the victories here."

The five-time US Open champion's return was met with a hero's welcome, recalling his dominant run from 2004 to 2008 when he won the title five years in a row. Federer shared a lighthearted anecdote about his first encounter with Andre Agassi at the US Open in 2001, where he suffered a swift defeat, humorously noting, "I was like, 'Okay, not so easy, not so fast, Roger'."

The evening also featured a tribute video narrated by actor Matthew McConaughey and a coin toss conducted by Anna Wintour. Prominent current tennis stars, including Serena Williams, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Casper Ruud, and Alexandra Eala, were in attendance, witnessing Federer's nostalgic return to the venue where he created some of the most iconic moments of his illustrious career. Federer is also slated for induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on August 29.
