Romania’s 2026-2027 School Holidays: When Students Will Take Breaks

Romania’s new school year begins on September 7, and students and parents can now mark the main holidays through the summer of 2027. The 2026-2027 academic year will contain 36 weeks of classes and several breaks, including a ski holiday whose exact timing will vary by county.

The autumn holiday is scheduled for October 24 to November 1, 2026. After roughly two months of classes, students will take their winter break from December 23 to January 10, 2027, covering the Christmas and New Year period.

The ski holiday will fall within a wider window, from February 15 to March 7, 2027. Each county school inspectorate will choose one week after consulting students, parents and teachers. Schools must communicate the detailed structure of their academic year by April 1, 2026.

Schools also have flexibility in scheduling the “School Otherwise” and “Green Week” programs, but both must take place by April 23, 2027. The Education Ministry has justified the programs as a way to combine classroom theory with practical activities and strengthen cooperation among schools, families and local communities. Schools are encouraged to organize free activities using available resources.
