Romania summons Russian ambassador after Leipzig drone attack and voices solidarity with Germany

Romania has summoned Russia’s ambassador in Bucharest after Germany blamed Moscow for a drone attack near Leipzig. The move came as European countries coordinated their responses to alleged Russian hybrid actions.

Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu said Romania was acting firmly and in coordination with its partners as a member of the European Union and NATO. Bucharest expressed solidarity with Germany and with other countries that have faced actions, interference or provocations attributed to Russia.

Germany officially accused Russia of responsibility for the drone attack at an airport near Leipzig. Moscow rejected the accusation. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev then issued threats against Germany, saying military factories and other targets in Berlin could be targeted.

The summons took place amid wider European reactions to actions attributed to Moscow. Țoiu said Romania had also been targeted by similar activities, linking the diplomatic response to Bucharest’s own concerns about hybrid interference and provocations.
