Roy Suryo seeks damages from police in pretrial hearing

Roy Suryo's legal team is pursuing a pretrial motion, seeking compensation from the police for what they describe as arbitrary actions during his arrest, detention, and home search. The team argues that the police's conduct was unlawful and caused their client considerable damage.

Abdul Ghafur Sangadji, one of Suryo's lawyers, stated that the police did not acknowledge any wrongdoing, despite the first pretrial ruling deeming the June 19 arrest arbitrary. He emphasized that Suryo had been cooperative with investigators, making the subsequent actions unjustified and hindering his client's ability to conduct daily activities.

The legal team is demanding Rp 206 million in damages, citing anxiety and the violation of legal procedures. "There is a sense of anxiety, we did not commit a violation. These rules are in the law and the previous decision ordered it, and we can submit it in the next pretrial," said another lawyer, Soraya.

Despite the ongoing legal challenge, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) expressed confidence in winning the case. Head of the Legal Division, Commissioner Abrianto Pardede, stated that the police are "one hundred percent sure" of victory. He asserted that all investigation and penyidikan processes were carried out in accordance with legal provisions, leaving no room for doubt.
