Ruffo Appel, a 4T political prisoner, insists Jorge Romero; accuses Morena of shielding criminals 'within its ranks'

Jorge Romero Herrera, the national leader of Mexico's National Action Party (PAN), asserted that former Baja California governor Ernesto Ruffo Appel is a political prisoner of the current "4T" administration.

Ernesto Ruffo is a political prisoner of the 4T government, which prefers to persecute opponents before bringing to justice the real criminals who are within its own ranks.

Romero argued that the lack of evidence against Ruffo Appel and his imprisonment in a maximum-security facility demonstrate the government's use of justice institutions to target political opponents. He stated that the administration "prefers to persecute opponents rather than bring to justice the real criminals who are within its own ranks."

We do not forget the Morena politicians who have been accused of alleged links with drug trafficking groups and who continue to be protected by the establishment. The law cannot be applied with one criterion for opponents and another for those who belong to the party in government.

The PAN leader highlighted several politicians from the ruling Morena party, including Rubén Rocha Moya, Enrique Inzunza, Américo Villarreal, and Marina del Pilar Ávila, who have faced serious allegations of links to criminal groups. Romero criticized the authorities for not acting with the same speed and severity in these cases as they have with Ruffo Appel.

Justice must not be used as a tool of political pressure. It must be applied with independence, neutrality, objectivity, and absolute respect for due process.

Romero stressed that while no one should be above the law, institutions must not be used to persecute adversaries or fabricate guilt. He called for objective evaluation of evidence in Ruffo Appel's case, emphasizing that justice must be applied independently and impartially. The PAN leader vowed that his party would not allow justice institutions to be used to create scapegoats and demanded Ruffo Appel's release due to insufficient justification for his detention.
