Russia: Ozon Warehouses Ablaze Amid Ukrainian Attacks; US and Iran Exchange Threats

Russian e-commerce firm Ozon suffered significant damage as its logistics centers caught fire in what the company stated were Ukrainian attacks. Reports indicate that a major Ozon hub in the Adygea Republic was hit, while another large warehouse, described as the largest in the North Caucasus region, burned in Dagestan. The attacks extended to Krasnodar Krai, where a private kindergarten was reportedly damaged by Ukrainian drones, resulting in two child fatalities and nine injuries. The industrial city of Nevinnomyssk in Stavropol Krai also faced drone attacks targeting industrial facilities, including another Ozon warehouse.

According to the company Ozon, one of the leading Russian online retail companies, a fire broke out at one of its main logistics centers as a result of a Ukrainian attack.

These incidents occurred amidst a night of broader conflict, with Russia launching its own attacks on the outskirts of Kharkiv, Ukraine, which resulted in three deaths. The dual nature of these strikes highlights the ongoing escalation and the targeting of critical infrastructure and civilian areas by both sides.

According to information provided by the ASTRA channel on Telegram, the attacked center is located in the Republic of Adygea.

In Kazakhstan, the nation held its inaugural elections for a new unicameral parliament, the Kurułtaj. Preliminary exit polls suggest a decisive victory for the Adilet party, which supports President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, projecting it to secure between 70% and 72% of the vote. The Central Election Commission reported a high turnout of 74.19% of eligible voters. Seven parties contested the election for 145 seats, with an option to vote against all candidates.

Meanwhile, the governor of Krasnodar Krai, Veniamin Kondratiev, reported that a private kindergarten was reportedly damaged in a Ukrainian drone attack on Krasnodar.

However, the electoral process faced criticism from opposition groups, independent observers, and experts. Concerns were raised about the exclusion of opposition parties from the ballot, with all participating parties reportedly showing some degree of support for President Tokayev's administration. The official results are expected by August 30th, after which the Kurułtaj will proceed with forming government bodies.
