Russia-Ukraine war: Kyiv region attack kills 10, Ukraine strikes Russian factory

Russia's missile attack on Ukraine's Kyiv region on Friday killed at least 10 people and injured nearly 100, according to Ukrainian authorities. The ballistic missile struck an area hosting an arms industry event, officials and industry representatives confirmed. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated via Telegram that a rescue operation was underway in the Kyiv region. He did not specify the exact target but noted investigations were ongoing. The regional governor indicated the missile hit a private training ground used for events.

Ukrainian industry association representatives confirmed that industry personnel were present at the site. This attack follows earlier reports of five deaths and nine injuries from a Russian airstrike on Sloviansk in the eastern Donetsk region. Governor Vadym Filashkin reported that two aerial bombs damaged private homes, a business, and the Latvian consulate.

On the Russian side, six people died and 26 were injured in a Ukrainian missile strike on a factory in Russia's Kirov region on Thursday, according to Governor Alexander Sokolov. President Zelenskyy identified the target as a Russian defense company supplying components for aircraft and missile systems used against Ukraine.

Amidst these escalations, President Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on July 28 to discuss the situation in Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at a summit in Kyrgyzstan, emphasized Moscow's determination to achieve its war aims, even against U.S. opposition, suggesting a shift in Washington's stance on prior agreements.
