Russian Attack, Airspace Incident Over Poland: EU Chief Vows Stronger Defense

Russia's overnight attack on Ukraine, which included a violation of Polish airspace, once again demonstrates that Moscow's aggression poses a threat to the security of all of Europe, European Council President Charles Michel stated on Thursday.

This has once again shown that Moscow poses a threat not only to Ukraine but also to European security.

During the combined assault, an unidentified object entered Polish airspace. An F-16 fighter jet was dispatched to identify and intercept it, but the object disappeared from radar. Its likely impact site was located near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin region. Air raid sirens were activated in Lublin and several other areas of the Lublin Voivodeship due to the Russian airstrikes on Ukraine.

My thoughts go out to the victims of these attacks. The European Union expresses its full solidarity with the authorities of Ukraine and Poland, who are working tirelessly to protect and defend their citizens.

Michel expressed solidarity with Ukraine and Poland, assuring that the EU is increasing its support for Ukraine's air defense capabilities, including anti-missile and anti-drone systems. He pledged that Europe would remain united against Russian aggression. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk convened a coordination team with the ministers of defense and interior, along with relevant services, in the Lublin region on Thursday morning.
