Russian drone attack kills 27, injures 42 in alleged ammo depot near Kyiv

A Russian drone strike on a warehouse reportedly holding ammunition in the Bucha district near Kyiv resulted in at least 27 fatalities and 42 injuries, Ukrainian authorities announced Saturday.

Regional administration chief Timur Tkachenko reported on Telegram that the death toll might not be final. Among the injured were four children, with seven requiring hospitalization. Additionally, 381 residents, including 59 children, were evacuated from the affected area. Search and rescue operations, along with firefighting efforts, are ongoing. The explosion following the attack caused damage to approximately fifty residential buildings.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized accountability for those who permitted the incident, stating that clear regulations prohibit storing ammunition near residential zones. He assured that relevant conclusions would be drawn. This incident echoes a similar event in Vishneve, Kyiv region, on July 6, where a prolonged detonation at ammunition warehouses after a Russian attack killed nine people and damaged over 280 homes.
