Sahmyook University Announces 2028 Admissions Plan

Sahmyook University is making significant adjustments to its admissions strategy for the 2028 academic year, aiming to attract a diverse pool of talented students. The university has unveiled its "2028 Admissions Plan," which outlines a total intake of 1,325 new students across 26 departments, including popular fields like Pharmacy, Artificial Intelligence Convergence, and Creative Convergence Free Major. This plan reflects a strategic shift towards early admissions, with the 'susi' (early) track now accounting for over 80% of the total admissions, a slight increase from the previous year.

A key feature of the new plan is the emphasis on the 'Seum Injae' (세움인재) track, a comprehensive student record-based admission process. This track will admit the largest number of students, with an increase of 27 students compared to the previous year, totaling 258. The evaluation process for 'Seum Injae' involves a two-stage assessment: the first stage relies solely on submitted documents (100%), selecting four times the number of available spots, followed by a second stage combining the first stage's results (60%) with an interview (40%). The assessment criteria focus on academic capabilities, career aspirations, and community engagement.

Sahmyook University is also adapting to changes in the national education system by introducing a "5-grade system" for high school GPA. This new system will be applied to the 'Hakgyojang Chucheon' (school principal recommendation) track, which admits 107 students based on their academic records. The university will use its own conversion method to apply the 5-grade system, even for students who previously followed the 9-grade system. This move aims to standardize the evaluation of academic performance across different high school curricula.

Furthermore, the university is retaining its distinctive 'essay-type' (yaksul-hyeong) 논술 admissions, a format that requires students to answer a limited number of questions within a set time. A total of 251 students will be admitted through this track, which, despite a slight decrease from the previous year, remains a significant pathway. The 'yaksul-hyeong' 논술 is based on EBS (Korean Educational Broadcasting System) materials and is designed to assess students' critical thinking and writing skills. The Pharmacy department will have a separate 'yaksul-hyeong' 논술 focusing solely on mathematics.

For the regular admissions (jeongsi), Sahmyook University will employ a unique weighting system for the four best-performing subjects among Korean language, mathematics, English, and a chosen elective. The weights will be applied in descending order of performance: 35%, 25%, 25%, and 15%. This approach aims to recognize students who excel in specific areas, rather than applying a uniform weighting across all subjects. The university stresses that the detailed admission guidelines will be released later and advises prospective students to consult the official announcements.
