San Diego secures Comic-Con hosting rights until 2030

San Diego will continue to host the world's premier pop culture convention, Comic-Con, through 2030. City officials and the San Diego Comic-Con International organization announced a new agreement, securing the event's future in the Californian city for an additional four years.

Mayor Todd Gloria highlighted the agreement as a result of "years of collaboration" and a "shared commitment" to fans, creators, and businesses. "We are proud to welcome everyone to San Diego for another unforgettable year and are excited about the future we are building together," Gloria stated in a press release. The convention's long-term presence in San Diego had been uncertain in recent years due to short-term extensions, raising doubts about its future beyond immediate commitments.

The extended agreement is projected to attract over 135,000 attendees for the 2026 event. Officials anticipate the convention will generate a regional economic impact exceeding $160 million through direct and indirect visitor spending. Comic-Con, the largest comic and popular arts convention globally, features over 460,000 square feet of exhibition space, more than 1,000 exhibitors, and over 2,000 hours of programming, workshops, and special events celebrating comics, film, television, video games, publishing, and the arts.
