Saturday thunderstorms to bring cooler temperatures to Hessen after heatwave

Hessen is bracing for another day of intense heat on Saturday, with temperatures expected to reach between 32 and 38 degrees Celsius, and up to 30 degrees in higher elevations. This follows a hot Friday, and while the sun will shine, the day is also forecast to bring much-needed rain.

By Saturday afternoon and evening, the weather service DWD predicts a shift, with the possibility of strong thunderstorms. These storms could bring heavy rain, hail, and powerful gusts of wind, offering some relief from the persistent heat. However, the intensity of these storms means they could also be severe.

The weekend will see a noticeable drop in temperatures. Sunday is expected to be cloudy with intermittent rain, particularly in the south where thunderstorms and even severe weather warnings are possible. Temperatures will range from 24 degrees Celsius in the north to 32 degrees in the south, with mountain regions cooling down to 22 degrees. By Sunday evening, the weather is expected to become dry.
