Saudi Arabia Completes Infrastructure Preparations for Hajj 2026

Saudi Arabia is leaving no stone unturned in its meticulous preparation for the upcoming Hajj season, demonstrating a significant commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort of millions of pilgrims. The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing has announced the completion of extensive infrastructure upgrades in Mecca and the holy sites. This proactive approach is central to the Kingdom's vision of facilitating a seamless and spiritually fulfilling Hajj experience for all attendees.

The scale of the undertaking is impressive, involving the development and maintenance of over 11,000 kilometers of roads. This massive project aims to significantly enhance traffic flow and mobility in areas that experience high concentrations of people during the pilgrimage. Beyond new road construction, the ministry has also focused on the upkeep and improvement of approximately 74,000 square kilometers of existing road surfaces, ensuring a robust and reliable network.

Furthermore, the preparations extend to critical infrastructure like bridges and tunnels. With upgrades planned for 123 bridges and 44 pedestrian and vehicle tunnels, the focus is on enhancing safety and efficiency for pilgrims navigating the sacred sites.
