Saudi-Serbian ties enter a new phase as cooperation expands across key sectors

Saudi-Serbian relations are moving toward what the article describes as a new phase, with Riyadh and Belgrade seeking wider cooperation in energy, technology, agriculture and food industries. Trade between the two countries is also growing, creating an expanding platform for business ties.

A meeting in Belgrade last week between Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed A. M. Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić resulted in an agreement to cancel visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. The measure is expected to make official contacts easier and strengthen cooperation between the two governments.

The ministers also discussed joint energy projects, information and communications technology, advanced technologies, agriculture and food production. They explored ways to increase the presence of Serbian companies in the Saudi market and encourage more investment by Saudi partners in Serbia. Serbia is scheduled to take part in the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah later this month with more than 50 companies.

The meeting also launched three initiatives: “Digital Non-Aligned,” a Film Festival of the Non-Aligned Movement, and an international seminar for young diplomats from member states. The initiatives form part of commemorations for the 65th anniversary of the movement’s first conference, hosted by Belgrade in 1961.

Serbian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dragan Bizenic said the meeting gave Đurić another opportunity to thank Saudi institutions for their “exceptional cooperation and support” during the evacuation of Serbian citizens from Riyadh after recent events in the Middle East. Bizenic said Serbia remained committed to deepening cooperation, especially economic ties, and praised the results he saw from Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 during a visit to Riyadh for the Future Investment Initiative conference last year.
