Saxon Switzerland Storm: "This is Hell" for TV Chef as Unwetter Destroys Snack Bar

TV and event chef Verena Leister described the scene at her snack bar in Saxon Switzerland as "hell" after a severe storm devastated the establishment. The storm, which brought heavy winds, struck the Amselsee location, uprooting trees that crushed her business. Leister, who has appeared on the Sat.1 cooking show "The Taste," was on vacation in Croatia when she heard about the disaster. Her immediate concern was for anyone injured, stating that "a human life is always the worst thing."

Tragically, a 28-year-old man died during the storm when he was struck by a falling tree. Leister, upon hearing the news, immediately cut short her family vacation and rushed back. She found her snack bar completely buried under fallen trees. "The roof collapsed, it's leaky. The ceiling came down from the inside. The walls are warped, and the floors are also damaged," she reported, surveying the extensive destruction. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Leister confirmed that the snack bar will not be able to reopen this season due to the severe damage. "We hope we can get it done as soon as possible, but this season it will definitely not be possible," she stated, expressing hope for a reopening next year. The chef admitted to being deeply affected by the devastation, having cried extensively upon seeing the images and the rapid destruction of the beautiful natural landscape around Amselsee. "It's really bad," she said.
