Wildfire: Post-fire operations underway in Chiemgauer Alps

Firefighters are continuing post-fire operations for a wildfire in the Chiemgauer Alps, focusing on locating embers in steep and inaccessible terrain. Since Saturday morning, rescue teams have been searching for smoldering spots, particularly along ridges that are difficult to reach even by helicopter, requiring rope teams for access.

A helicopter and approximately 60 firefighters and mountain rescue personnel are deployed near Unterwössen in the Traunstein district for these operations. The fire, located in a mountain forest near the Lackenbergwand, was successfully extinguished on Friday, leading to the lifting of the regional disaster alert.

Last night, a drone equipped with thermal imaging technology surveyed the area. While isolated smoke and embers were detected on the mountain, the fire did not reignite. The operation aims to ensure no residual heat remains to prevent any resurgence of the blaze.
