SC Orders Authorities to Present Materials Seized from Durga Prasai’s House

Nepal's Supreme Court has ordered authorities to appear with materials seized from the residence of activist Durga Prasai. The court issued the directive in response to a writ petition filed by Prasai himself, challenging actions taken against him.

A bench led by Justice Nripa Dhoj Niraula mandated that the concerned authorities present themselves within 24 hours, bringing along all items reportedly confiscated during a search of Prasai's house on August 20. The search was conducted under a warrant.

Furthermore, the court has asked for an explanation regarding the restrictions placed on Prasai's freedom of movement, specifically preventing him from leaving his residence. The District Police Range, Bhaktapur, is required to submit a written response through the Office of the Attorney General.

The Supreme Court's order stipulates that authorities must provide the legal basis and reasons for their actions, and submit their written response within 24 hours, excluding transit time. This legal action stems from Prasai's challenge to the restrictions imposed on his movement.
