Security Forces Kill 16 Terrorists in Balochistan Operation

Security forces have killed 16 terrorists during the ongoing Operation Al-Azm in Pakistan's Balochistan province, state media reported, citing security forces. The operation, which targets groups the government refers to as "Fitna-al-Hindustan" to highlight alleged Indian involvement in terrorism, also resulted in the destruction of terrorist hideouts and the recovery of weapons and explosives. Operation Al-Azm was launched after a deadly attack on a Karachi-bound coach. This development occurs as Balochistan faces persistent security challenges. Earlier in the week, the military reported killing 10 terrorists and apprehending two suicide bombers in separate operations in the province. Security forces also launched Operation Shaban in retaliation for a deadly attack on a police post in Ziarat that resulted in the kidnapping and killing of 27 police officers. A recent security assessment indicated a sharp deterioration in Pakistan's security situation in May, primarily driven by escalating violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Balochistan emerged as the most affected province, recording a 109% increase in terrorist attacks and a significant surge in kidnappings, with 52 out of 54 nationwide abductions occurring in the province. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently stated that the country's leadership had made a "mutual and singular decision" to end terrorism. Federal and provincial governments have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing security coordination and implementing a comprehensive peace strategy to ensure state authority across Balochistan, vowing "no space for terrorists."
