Selangor Assembly to announce ADUN's status amid bankruptcy claims

The Selangor State Legislative Assembly is poised to announce the fate of a Member of the State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) who is reportedly facing bankruptcy. Speaker Lau Weng San is expected to make the determination this week, which will then be communicated to the Election Commission (SPR).

That is subject to the prerogative of the speaker, not my position. But I think the assembly will prepare the notes and I think maximum within this week we will announce the status of the (ADUN) concerned.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that the matter falls under the Speaker's prerogative. He indicated that the assembly would prepare the necessary notes and the decision would be made public within the week. The situation arises from recent viral reports alleging that an ADUN in Selangor has lost their eligibility as a people's representative due to bankruptcy.

That is the SPR's decision, not mine. Because they will make the confirmation whether it has been three years or not, or whether a by-election needs to be held or not. We have to comply.

While the identity of the ADUN and the specifics of the bankruptcy claim remain unconfirmed, the proceedings could lead to a by-election. Amirudin explained that the organization of any by-election would be subject to the SPR's assessment, including whether the three-year mark for automatic election triggers has been met. He emphasized adherence to the law in such circumstances.
