Selangor Wholesale Market to Undergo Redevelopment Starting Next Year

Pasar Borong Selangor, a major wholesale market in Malaysia, is slated for redevelopment beginning early next year. The project, which has been in planning for several years, was delayed due to issues with the initially appointed contractor. Selangor's Infrastructure and Agriculture Exco, Datuk Izham Hashim, confirmed that the design and implementation phases are nearing completion. "This project was actually planned a long time ago, but before this, there was a slight issue with the appointed contractor," Izham stated. "We are finalizing the design and its implementation. God willing, if everything goes smoothly, we will start construction early next year." The redevelopment will encompass the entire market area managed by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS). The new design prioritizes safety, incorporating modern facilities such as fire hydrants, automatic sprinkler systems, and sufficient parking spaces. "We want to develop a modern market that is more comfortable, safe, and has adequate parking facilities. Safety aspects will be given attention, including the provision of fire hydrants and sprinkler systems as key elements in this redevelopment," Izham added. The redevelopment plans are independent of a recent fire that destroyed three premises at the market. Operations at the market continue as usual, with the fire affecting only a catering supply shop, an egg shop, and a hardware store. No casualties or injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department. The affected areas will be cleared before further action is taken on the three damaged premises. The state government aims to finalize all site-related matters by the end of the year to commence the development project as planned.
