Semarang Strengthens Halal Industry Ecosystem Ahead of National MTQ 2026

The Semarang City Government is actively bolstering its halal industry ecosystem by providing certification assistance to local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This strategic push is particularly significant as the city prepares to host the National Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ) XXXI in September 2026.

Mayor Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti emphasized that the national event presents a crucial opportunity for local MSMEs to expand their market reach by ensuring product standards and certifications. "The Semarang City Government is fully committed to encouraging the strengthening of the halal industry and the fulfillment of TKDN (domestic component level) for local MSMEs," she stated.

Through its "Waras Ekonomi" program, the city has already facilitated the issuance of 100 halal certificates for businesses in the batik, craft, and culinary sectors. Additionally, 50 TKDN certificates have been granted to 20 MSMEs. The Department of Industry in Semarang is overseeing the certification process for its fostered MSMEs, guiding them through data collection, socialization, coordination with the Central Java Halal Product Assurance Organizing Body (BPJPH), registration assistance, verification, and post-certification evaluation.

Arwita Mawarti, Head of the Department of Industry, highlighted the streamlined process for businesses seeking certification. "The mechanism is very concise: businesses submit an application by preparing their NIB (Business Identification Number) and product documents, undergo mentoring and verification, and then halal examination until the certificate is issued," she explained.

The city aims to leverage the MTQ National event to increase the visibility of local products nationwide. These standardized products will be showcased during various Semarak MTQ Nasional events, including a Halal Food Festival, Calligraphy Expo, Islamic Fashion Show, and a National Rebana Competition. The government hopes the MTQ will bring broader benefits to Semarang, ensuring local products meet high standards and possess competitive advantages.
