Seven arrested in Ecuador's 'Plan de Protección Quito' operation

Ecuadorian National Police conducted a containment operation on Friday, August 7, 2026, as part of the priority actions within the 'Plan de Protección Quito.' The security operation focused on strategic sectors of the Ecuadorian capital, leading to the capture of individuals wanted by justice, arrests in flagrante delicto, and the seizure of multiple incriminating items.

During the operation, law enforcement meticulously registered 818 individuals, 511 vehicles, and 240 motorcycles. The results included two arrests on judicial warrants and five apprehended for crimes in progress. Authorities also confiscated 50 bladed weapons, impounded 17 motorcycles (five for criminal reasons and 12 for traffic violations), recovered one stolen vehicle, and seized 20 grams of marijuana.

Over 100 police officers from tactical and specialized units were deployed to support the plan. Alongside control measures, officers engaged in 30 direct community contacts to strengthen social proximity with residents and merchants. The interventions concentrated on high-traffic areas within the capital's commercial and residential zones, including emblematic locations like Plaza Foch, Calama Street, Joaquín Pinto Street, Wilson Street, 12 de Octubre Avenue, and La Mariscal.

District General Víctor Herrera Leiva affirmed the institution's commitment to providing peace and security during the holiday period. The National Police emphasized that operations under the 'Plan de Protección Quito' will be permanent, with constant preventive patrols and visible police presence in densely populated areas of the Metropolitan District of Quito.
