Shakira to Rebuild University and Fund 10 Schools in Colombia's Chocó Region After Quake

Colombian superstar Shakira has pledged to rebuild the Technological University of Chocó, which suffered damage from a recent earthquake.

Announcing the initiative on Monday, Shakira revealed her commitment to personally spearhead the reconstruction efforts for the university. She will collaborate with American philanthropist Howard Graham Buffett, who will support the construction of ten new schools in the Chocó department through Shakira's Pies Descalzos Foundation.

During a visit to Quibdó, the capital of Chocó, with Buffett, Shakira underscored the critical role of education. "Every day that children do not go to school is a day we pause their future, and we cannot allow that," she told reporters, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

The singer's involvement aims to restore educational infrastructure in a region significantly impacted by natural disasters. The partnership with Buffett signifies a substantial investment in the future of Chocó's youth, providing them with safe and functional learning environments.
