Sharjah man gets community service instead of jail term for assaulting another man while mediating a fight

A Sharjah court has ordered an Asian man to perform community service, commuting a three-month jail sentence. The man had been convicted of assaulting another resident while attempting to mediate a dispute. The incident resulted in the victim sustaining multiple fractures across his body.

The victim reported that his clothes were scattered in his room, and a teapot was placed on his bed by a roommate. When he confronted the roommate for an explanation, a fight ensued. The accommodation supervisor intervened to break up the altercation.

However, during the mediation, the supervisor became indignant during his conversation with the victim. Instead of de-escalating the situation, he assaulted the victim with a metal object, causing significant injuries. The victim subsequently filed a report with the authorities.

Confronted with the charges, the accused admitted to initially intervening to mediate but stated that the conversation led to his indignation and subsequent assault. After reviewing witness statements and evidence, the court opted for community service as the penalty.
