She Stole a KD500 Gold Bracelet in Mubarakiya, Then Said: ‘It Accidentally Fell Into My Bag’

Kuwaiti authorities have arrested a woman for allegedly stealing a gold bracelet valued at approximately KD 500 from a jewelry store in the bustling Souq Al-Mubarakiya. The suspect, described as a Bedouin woman wearing a black abaya and niqab, reportedly posed as a customer before seizing the opportunity to steal the bracelet while the shopkeeper was distracted.

The theft was immediately reported to the police, who were provided with CCTV footage of the incident. The Capital Governorate Investigations Department swiftly circulated a description of the stolen bracelet to gold shops across Kuwait, creating a network to identify the item if it was resold. This proactive measure proved effective when an employee at a gold shop in Farwaniya contacted the police after a woman attempted to sell a bracelet matching the stolen item's description.

Detectives apprehended the woman at the Farwaniya shop. During the investigation, it was discovered that she was living in Kuwait illegally. Initially, she denied the theft, claiming the bracelet had accidentally fallen into her bag. However, confronted with the surveillance footage, she admitted to stealing it. The investigation took a more serious turn when she confessed to a pattern of similar thefts over several months, using the same distraction technique at various gold shops and selling the stolen jewelry to other establishments.

Authorities are now expanding the investigation to determine the full extent of her alleged criminal activities and are reviewing other reported incidents to which she confessed. Additionally, investigators are looking into the owner of the gold shop suspected of purchasing the stolen items, aiming to ascertain whether they knowingly dealt in stolen goods. The woman has been referred to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
