Sheinbaum dismisses political persecution claims against Maru Campos; "We make no threats," she assures

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has rejected claims by Chihuahua Governor María Eugenia Campos that the federal government and the Attorney General's Office (FGR) are threatening or harassing her. Campos has alleged she is being politically persecuted.

"I have not spoken with her, but we do not make any threats. I don't know why she refers to it, and if she considers it to be from someone... then she should file a complaint, but there is nothing against the governor," Sheinbaum stated during her morning press conference on Wednesday.

The federal president reiterated that the only ongoing matter is an investigation opened following the entry of CIA agents into Chihuahua last April. "There was an investigation file that was opened due to the presence of CIA agents in Chihuahua, carrying out operations. And this file continues with the Prosecutor's Office, but it has nothing to do with a political matter; it has to do with a violation of the National Security Law," she explained.

Governor Campos Galván had asserted on Tuesday that she had received threats against herself, her property, and her family. She suggested that the FGR had shelved the case concerning the American agents who died in Chihuahua months prior but believes it could be used against her later. "Everyone is subject to persecution; it already happened in my case. When they saw that many people were waking up in the country, they decided to put the case aside. For a while, because I am sure they will come back through the FGR to persecute Maru Campos. I already have several written threats and various situations that have happened against me, against my property, against my family, and they will continue," Campos Galván said.

Despite these alleged threats, the governor stated she is not afraid and will continue to defend Chihuahua, considering it her duty and job. She described the threats not as mere words or messages but as official documents that aim to violate her rights, though she did not elaborate on the specifics.
