Shepherd found dead in irrigation canal

A young shepherd, Mecnun Demir, aged 20, has been found deceased after disappearing in an irrigation canal in the Başdeğirmen Mahallesi neighborhood. Demir had entered the canal to cool off.

Following reports that Demir could not be located after entering the water, the 112 Emergency Call Center was alerted. In response, gendarmerie, health officials, AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), and specialized dive teams from Diyarbakır and Batman were dispatched to the area.

Extensive search efforts were undertaken by the teams. After a significant search operation, Demir's body was recovered. It was found approximately 10 kilometers downstream from the location where he was last seen entering the canal.

The body of the young man was transported to the morgue for an autopsy. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident to determine the full circumstances surrounding Demir's death.
