Shooting near Montevideo hospital targeted man who survived two prior attacks

Police are investigating a shooting that took place Tuesday afternoon near the Hospital Maciel in Montevideo's Ciudad Vieja neighborhood. Evidence suggests the target was 27-year-old Kevin Morotto, who has survived two previous assassination attempts within the past year.

Morotto was reportedly seeking treatment for injuries sustained in a prior attack in late July when the latest shooting occurred. Investigators hypothesize that the assailants knew his whereabouts and targeted him as he left the hospital. This incident marks the third time Morotto has survived a violent attack.

According to initial reports, an individual emerged from a blue Renault Kwid, firing at least ten shots at Morotto and another person, who managed to escape unharmed. The assailant then fled in the Kwid, which was later discovered abandoned in the La Teja neighborhood. The perpetrators continued their escape in a Volkswagen electric vehicle, which was also found abandoned later in the Los Bulevares area.

Authorities recovered a ski mask and a jacket from a garage near where the first getaway car was found. These items reportedly match those worn by the assailants during the Ciudad Vieja shooting. Police are now treating the three separate attacks on Morotto as a single case, aiming to identify the perpetrators and their motives.
