Sinister Plan to Murder Pregnant María Camila Potosí and Steal Her 8-Month-Old Baby Allegedly Involved Paying a Gang

The Colombian Prosecutor's Office has charged five individuals with aggravated feminicide, simple aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated forced disappearance in connection with the brutal murder of María Camila Potosí, who was eight months pregnant. The suspects were arrested on July 30th following Potosí's disappearance and subsequent discovery of her body.

Investigative activities carried out by the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation allowed for the prosecution of five individuals who would be involved in the crime of a pregnant woman, in events that occurred on July 16 in Cali, Valle del Cauca.

The horrific crime occurred in a property located in the La Buitrera district on the outskirts of Cali. María Camila Potosí had been missing since July 16th. Four days later, authorities found her body by the Meléndez River. Investigators allege that the suspects had a sinister plan to murder Potosí and steal her unborn baby.

According to the prosecution, Yulieth Cecilia Angulo Escobar allegedly lured Potosí to a property under the pretense of going to a diaper store. Once at the location, Nitson Steven Mondragón Cuero reportedly attacked Potosí violently with a sharp weapon, killing her and then extracting the eight-month-old fetus. Juan José Narváez Rodríguez is accused of driving the vehicle used to transport Potosí's body to the rural area where it was abandoned.

To gain her trust, she had pretended to be pregnant and on the day of the events, she made sure to take her to a diaper store located in the Alto de Polvorines sector. When they arrived at the property, Nitson Steven Mondragón Cuero allegedly violently approached the victim and attacked her with a sharp weapon on repeated occasions. After her death, she allegedly distracted the eight-month-old fetus.

Edwin García Zuluaga and Kevin Alexi López Orozco are also implicated in the crime, allegedly playing different roles in its execution. The case has generated widespread indignation across Colombia, highlighting the extreme violence faced by women.

Regarding the role of Narváez Rodríguez, he would have been in charge of driving the vehicle in which the woman's body was transported to the rural area of the La Buitrera district, where it was abandoned.
