Five charged in disappearance and murder of pregnant woman María Camila Potosí in Cali

Colombian authorities have charged five individuals in connection with the kidnapping and murder of María Camila Potosí, a 21-year-old pregnant woman, in Cali. The Fiscalía General de la Nación announced the judicialization of the suspects after 13 days of investigation, with a hearing for pre-trial detention underway.

The accused, identified as Yulieth Cecilia Angulo Escobar, Nitzon Stiven Mondragón Cuero, Kevin Alexis López Orozco, Juan José Narváez Rodríguez, and Edwin García Zuluaga, were arrested on July 30. The investigation began after Potosí was reported missing on July 16. The Fiscalía activated an urgent search mechanism and a pink alert for forced disappearance.

On July 20, investigators found Potosí's body in the La Buitrera district. However, her unborn baby was not found with her. According to the investigation, the suspects allegedly conspired to deceive Potosí and transport her to a property in the Alto de Polvorines sector, near La Buitrera. There, she was reportedly attacked multiple times with a sharp weapon to extract the baby.

Prosecutors detailed the roles of the accused, stating that Yulieth Cecilia Angulo Escobar allegedly transported Potosí on a motorcycle to a property secured for the crime. Angulo Escobar reportedly feigned pregnancy to gain Potosí's trust. On the day of the incident, she allegedly told Potosí she was taking her to a diaper store in the city's south.
