Six Detained in Kidnapping Case of Two Foreign Nationals

Six individuals have been remanded for seven days as authorities continue their investigation into the kidnapping of two foreign nationals in Taman Amira, Alor Setar, Kedah. The suspects, comprising one local man and four foreign men along with one foreign woman, were apprehended in coordinated raids across Kedah, Penang, and Kuala Lumpur.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk M. Kumar confirmed the remand order, stating that the suspects, aged between 20 and 40, are assisting police with the ongoing inquiry, which includes identifying the motive behind the abduction. The investigation is proceeding under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961, which deals with kidnapping for ransom.

All of them have been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation.

The arrests are linked to a dramatic police operation that occurred the previous day. During the operation to rescue the two kidnapped victims, police engaged in a shootout with two male suspects, resulting in the deaths of the assailants. The two rescued victims, a foreign man in his 70s and a foreign woman in her 30s, were found blindfolded and handcuffed. Authorities also recovered a Beretta semi-automatic pistol with five rounds, a revolver with four rounds, and a large parang near the deceased suspects.
