Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic will officiate the 2026 World Cup final, a dream come true for the 46-year-old official. The match will feature Spain against Argentina at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Vincic expressed his initial shock and subsequent joy upon receiving the news, calling it an extraordinary honor to lead the most prestigious match in world football. This appointment represents the pinnacle of his career, having earned his international referee license in 2010. Vincic is the first Slovenian to referee a World Cup final, joining an elite group of 22 individuals in the tournament's history. His experience includes officiating high-profile matches such as the 2022 Europa League final, the 2024 Champions League final, and the Euro 2024 semifinal between France and Spain. During the 2026 World Cup, he has already overseen group stage matches involving Brazil, Morocco, Jordan, and Algeria, as well as a round of 16 game between Mexico and Ecuador.
