Slovakia Suffers Nearly 16 Million Euros in Flood Damage in Second Half of 2025

Slovakia experienced significant flood damage in the latter half of 2025, with the total cost exceeding 15.87 million euros. The Ministry of Environment's report indicates that the Prešov and Košice regions bore the brunt of the devastation, suffering the most extensive impacts.

The report details that damages to state property alone surpassed 15.85 million euros. Municipalities also incurred costs, totaling 22,106 euros. The districts most affected included Bardejov, Prešov, Sabinov, Košice-okolie, and Ružomberok, highlighting the widespread nature of the flooding.

Substantial resources were allocated to mitigate the effects of these natural disasters. Over 1.5 million euros were spent on flood protection measures, and more than 1.23 million euros were dedicated to flood rescue operations. These figures underscore the significant effort and financial commitment required to manage and respond to such events.

November 2025 emerged as the most critical month, with flood activity recorded on 14 days. The primary cause was localized flash floods triggered by intense thunderstorms, which impacted communities along the Hornád, Bodrog, and Hron river basins, often outside the main monitoring network. This highlights the challenges in predicting and responding to sudden, intense weather events.
