Soldiers foil terror attacks in Zamfara, Katsina, kill nine militants

In a significant display of operational prowess, troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully thwarted coordinated terrorist assaults in Zamfara and Katsina states. The operations, conducted over a three-day period from May 1 to May 3, resulted in the neutralization of nine militants, including two notorious kingpins, underscoring the Nigerian Army's commitment to combating insurgency in the North-West.

In the ensuing firefight, troops neutralised four terrorists and recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones and the sum of ₦153,000.

The engagements, detailed by Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division, showcase the troops' effectiveness in confronting armed groups. In Katsina, along the Turare–Yantumaki Road, troops engaged and neutralized four terrorists, recovering vital equipment including rifles, ammunition, and motorcycles. This swift action disrupted their plans and prevented potential harm to civilians.

The terrorists initially retreated and abandoned their motorcycles, but later regrouped and launched a counterattack on Forward Operating Base Bagega.

Further compounding the successes, troops operating in Zamfara State, specifically in the Anka Local Government Area, eliminated five additional militants. Among those killed were identified kingpins Anaruwa and Gomina, a relative of a known bandit leader. The army's report highlights the dynamic nature of these encounters, with troops demonstrating resilience even when facing counterattacks.

While celebrating these successes, the Nigerian Army also acknowledged the cost of these operations, reporting the loss of one soldier.
