Son Heung-min returns to LAFC after World Cup break, prepares for MLS second half

South Korean football captain Son Heung-min has rejoined his Major League Soccer (MLS) team, Los Angeles FC (LAFC), following a break for the North/Central American World Cup. LAFC announced his return on social media on July 15th, sharing training footage of the star player.

Son had been resting in South Korea after the World Cup and departed for the United States on July 10th to prepare for the latter half of the MLS season. His immediate focus will be on the upcoming regional derby against LA Galaxy, scheduled for July 18th.

The MLS entered its break before the World Cup in May, with the tournament concluding on July 20th. Son played in two group stage matches as a starter and one as a substitute in his fourth World Cup, captaining the South Korean team. However, the team was eliminated in the group stage with one win and two losses, and Son was unable to score, falling short of his bid to become the South Korean player with the most World Cup goals.

Despite a goalless streak in the MLS season so far, Son leads the league in assists with 9, tied with another player. He will also participate in the MLS All-Star game on July 29th, facing the Liga MX All-Stars, where he will play alongside notable players like Lionel Messi and Thomas Müller.
