SOS Children's Villages supports orphans of Kalamata femicide victim

SOS Children's Villages is implementing protective measures, care, and psychosocial support for the two underage children who lost their mother in a recent femicide incident in Kalamata, Greece. The children's aunt, who has assumed temporary custody based on a judicial decision, is also receiving support.

The organization is focused on ensuring a safe and stable environment for the children. They are covering the rent for a temporary residence in Kalamata where the children and their aunt will stay until they can relocate to their new permanent family home. This transition aims to provide continuity and security during a difficult period.

In collaboration with the Messenia Community Center, a specialized interdisciplinary team from SOS Children's Villages is providing immediate psychosocial support to the children and their aunt. This support includes tailored interventions designed to address the trauma resulting from such a severe event. The services encompass psychological care, social work, counseling, and ongoing family monitoring.

SOS Children's Villages stated that they will continue to support the children and their aunt even after their permanent relocation. The goal is to ensure the continuation of psychosocial care and connect them with necessary local services and support networks. "When a child faces such a violent and traumatic loss, society must mobilize immediately and in a coordinated manner. Our responsibility is to ensure that the children have the people, services, and conditions they need to feel safe and stable again and to continue their lives with dignity and perspective," said Vassilis Tsili, General Director of SOS Children's Villages.

The organization's intervention is part of its ongoing mission to protect children in crisis and support families caring for them.
