Southern Taiwan on Alert for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration issued heavy and torrential rain advisories for seven southern counties and cities on July 26, 2026, as a southern cloud system moved north and afternoon convection intensified.

Taitung County is bracing for torrential rain, while Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and mountainous areas of Kaohsiung and Pingtung are expected to receive heavy downpours. The advisories were issued at 12:30 p.m. local time, warning of localized, short-duration intense rainfall.

Authorities are urging residents to be vigilant about potential hazards, including lightning strikes and strong gusts of wind. Mountainous regions are particularly cautioned about landslides, falling rocks, and the risk of flash floods in rivers. Low-lying areas are also at risk of water accumulation and flooding.
