Southwesterly Winds Strengthen, Bringing Heavier Rain Risk to Two Areas, Zheng Mingdian Warns

Strengthening southwesterly winds are directing more moisture toward southern Taiwan, raising the likelihood of rain in southwestern Taiwan and eastern Taiwan, former Central Weather Bureau director Zheng Mingdian said.

Zheng said in a Facebook post that the winds southwest of Taiwan had grown stronger and were pointing toward southern Taiwan. The affected areas could also see periods of heavier rain.

He added that a narrow low-pressure zone had formed on the western side of the southwesterly winds. The system showed signs of becoming more concentrated and briefly strengthening.

Zheng urged people to pay close attention to the latest weather information issued by Taiwan's Central Weather Administration over the coming days.
